Dorm Room Security: Keep Your Stuff Safe at College

Dorms are busy, social, and full of expensive electronics, a tempting mix for theft. Most dorm crime is opportunistic: an unlocked door, a laptop left on a desk, a propped exit. Closing those gaps makes a huge difference.

Lock Up Every Time

• Lock your door even for quick trips down the hall.
• Don't prop building doors open for friends, this lets anyone in.
• Use a small safe or lockbox for cash, passports, and jewelry.

Protect Your Electronics

Record serial numbers, enable "find my device" tracking, and use a laptop lock at the library. Engrave or label valuables so they're harder to resell and easier to recover.

Stay Personally Safe

Save campus security on speed dial, use escort services after dark, and stick with friends at night. Know where the blue-light emergency phones are located.
